The case involves a double homicide that occurred at 379 Waterford Loop, Rineyville, Kentucky on September 11, 2007 between the hours of 2am and 6am. The report came in to 911 dispatcher around 12pm on 9/11/07 by 9yo Matthew Peterson, who called and reported that his mother and grandmother had been shot. The victims were identified as 53yo Karen Green and 31yo Tracy Smith. During the time of this incident inside the home were both victims, Matthew, Eion, and Reagan. Crime scene evidence shows the attacker approached the home using the back porch entering through the kitchen area. The door leading into the kitchen shows signs of a struggle as there was a gun shot through the door as well as two holes, one lower to the bottom of the door which appeared to be cause by a kick and the other a bit higher towards the middle. Tracy Smith was their daughter-in-law from Tracy’s previous marriage and was staying with them due to her pending divorce and issues with her current husband Brent Smith. Tracy had three children, 9yo Matthew Peterson from her previous marriage and 4yo Eion & 2yo Raegan Smith from her current marriage to Brent Smith. Tracy Smith’s father David Wilson was active in her life, her mother was not mentioned. Tracy Smith was employed with North Hardin Nursing Home where she has been an employee since 1998 and works Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. Mrs. Smith’s ties to the military required her to leave the company several times however; she was an active employee during the time of the incident. Tray Smith was married to Brent Smith for approximately 5 years and was currently going through divorce proceedings.
