Together these laws state that if a man has knocked out the eye of a free man his eye shall be knocked out but if a man knocks out the eye of a slave he shall pay half his value (Doc E). Everyone is equal, slave or not slave. This law is also very unfair because a man can’t choose if he is born into a slave family or what color he is. If a man knows that he will only have to pay half a slaves value he could knock out a slaves eye whenever he wanted to, how was that fair to the…
Additionally, in this trial, the implications of an elected versus appointed judge can be seen. Judge Horton did the right thing by overturning the conviction of Haywood Patterson, he did so at great risk. Horton, an elected judge, basically ended his career with this move. It is this situation that leads me to believe that judges should be appointed rather than elected. Not every judge, especially when put in a situation like this, would have the integrity to ignore the political ramifications of their decision.…
1. Isolated Kentucky grew so rapidly from its first days of settlement that its transportation needs were magnified. When the early explorers reached Kentucky, they found a few Indian trails, notable the Warrior Path that crossed the region from the Cumberland Gap to the Ohio River, and any number of game trails. Daniel Boone opened the famous packhorse trail to Bonne borough, and other trails were soon developed that led to new stations and forts. Kentucky’s General Assembly in 1797 gave the county courts authority to oversee road construction and repair.…

Were Socioeconomic Tensions Responsible for the Witchcraft Hysteria in Salem? When conducting my research on the Salem Witch Trial era in the year of 1692, there seems to be the same question that people want answers to, which is what caused the Salem Witch trials?. When you sit-down and think about what happened, this kind of question can come to anybody mind naturally. But even though it seems to be an easy question, unfortunately, it seems that it doesn't have an easy answer. That Is why I will be comparing and analyzing three great people, co-historians, and an author, on their reports about the Salem Witch Trials.…

The First Amendment allows the Mennonites to be justifiable under the Free Exercise Clause. This clause is designed to protect individual's religious beliefs and their practices.…
Part 1: What is the political and social impact slavery has on Kentucky in the mid-1800s? During the mid-1800s, the country was divided by slavery. The Southern economy relied on slavery, while the northern economy had no use for it. Since the Northern economy had no use for slaves, many wanted to abolish it.…

If you had been forced away from your family, community, and culture (as Native children were until the mid-1980s) how might you have turned out differently? What would you have missed learning without your personal cultural influences? The Indian Removal Act was signed into law by President Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830 to permit the elimination of Indian tribes to federal territory west of the Mississippi River.…
Thought Question: Which Law to Follow? Eight Amish men were arrested because they refused to pay a fine. They were originally fined for not putting a reflective triangle on their buggy. The Amish refused because they live a plain and simple life and want plain and simple buggies. Adding a triangular reflector would not be plain nor simple which violates their faith.…
Pottsville, a small town of three thousand people in Arkansas has made the decision to print a bible verse on the side of their town police car. The mayor of Pottsville, Jerry Williams, says that there is a common theme in the community: religion. Williams believes that the faith of the community is seen in what they do, and adding a verse to the police car is another reflection of this. So far, the town has received good feedback for the action, but they are prepared for opposition. One community member says, “It shows respect to the people we let take care of us and protect our community.”…
There are dozens of examples of Jim Crow laws - and many of them sound ridiculous. Laws were passed to create separate schools, churches, parks, trains, buses, toilets and so on. Even drinking fountains were segregated. Marriages were banned between colours. Blacks even had a Jim Crow Bible to swear by in Court!…
