Kent Rominger's Life And Accomplishments

Kent Rominger is a former American astronaut and a former captain in the Navy. He was born and raised in Del Norte, Colorado. Kent Rominger, has been on 5 space missions, some of which include, STS-100, STS-80, and STS-73. His first spaceflight, was as the pilot of STS-73 which launched on October 20, 1995. The STS-73 was the second United States Microgravity Laboratory mission which focused on biotechnology, materials science, combustion science, and many other scientific experiments. He was the pilot of his second mission which is the STS-80 that launched on November 19, 1996. The STS-80 mission was launched to deploy and retrieve the Wake Shield Facility and ORFEUS Satellites. On that mission they did many things including retrieving the CRISTA-SPAS Satellite, operated the Japanese Manipulator Flight Demonstration robotic arm, studied changes in the Earth’s atmosphere, and tested technology for future use on the International Space Station. Kent Romingers first mission as a commander, fourth mission total was the STS-96 Discovery that was launched on May 27, 1999. The STS-96 Discovery was a ten day mission that had a crew delivering four tons of logistics and supplies to the International Space Station to prepare for the first crew to live on the station. Kent Romingers final mission was as commander on the STS-100 Endeavor where he represented the United States, Russia, Canada, and Italy and was launched on April 19, 2001. On this mission they installed the Canadian-built robotic arm and Raffaello Logistics. Kent Rominger was selected by NASA, in March of 1992. Kent Rominger was recently, inducted into the American astronaut hall of fame. He has logged, over a total of 1,600 hours and traveled nearly 27
