There is no excuse for driving while intoxicated. People who decide to drive intoxicated should be punished for all of the harm or crimes they commit while driving under the influence. Driving under the influence is a serious crime since you can possibly harm yourself, other people on the road, and if you had passengers in your car. Driving while intoxicated is a crime that needs to be stop. Sadly, back in 2011, Kenneth Belew pleads guilty to driving drunk and killing two high school teenagers. I don’t agree with the court’s sentencing on Belew. On May 2, 2012, Middlesex Superior Court Judge Mitchell Kaplan sentenced Kenneth Belew to six years in house of correction and with the chance of parole in two and half years. Then Belew hit the breaks for no reason then car went sideways before crashing. Two of the passenger were sixteen year old girls, who did not survive the crash. Belew and other passengers survived the crash with just minor injuries. Belew blood alcohol level at the time the crashed was .17 and …show more content…
Belew got lucky since the judge went easy on him. Belew should been charge with two counts of vehicle man slaughter and be sentenced a state prison where he should be serving his time. Also, if I was the judge I would sentenced him to the maximum sentence, which is fifteen years per each count of vehicle man slaughter. Also, I would make him serve at least half of his sentence before be eligible for parole. I am still surprised that the judge went so easy on Kenneth Belew since he also has a record. Belew has been arrested for assault and battery on a police officer and he has had his license suspended four times already before this

Since Andrew is only 15, youth sentencing seems appropriate. I will not be charging Andrew, but his sentence will include, conditional discharge, in which Andrew willingly has to attend the rest of his schooling everyday, have a curfew of no later than 8pm each night, and no earlier than 6am every morning. Putting into consideration, that Medina was not proven to have been the killer, this sentence will help him in finding a new path, and keeping him away from the people who are great influences for drugs, and alcohol. Andrew tried to tell the court that he had witnessed the crime, but everyone thought that he committed it. Do we really know the true killer?…

Laws against driving under the influence are created to save lives; however, even harsher laws may decrease the number of accidents. It has been said that a person does not need to consume alcohol to make bad choices. There are criminals who have robbed houses or robbed a bank who were most likely not drunk.…
