Many organizations have an organizational structure that serves many purposes. The most important of these is the hierarchy within the organization. It outlines who is under who as this is necessary for the chain of command. The organizational structure is also important in showing the different departments in an organization and who they are under. “The degree to which a nurse functions in these various responsibilities depends on the position the nurse holds in the organization” (Blais, & Hayes, 2016, p.189). As a result, it is possible to know the number of staff members without conducting a headcount. Healthcare organizations and nursing institutions also have structured systems with different levels of management. In modern times many such institutions have trained nurses to hold leadership positions all the way to the highest role in the hierarchy. This management system has its pros and cons as will be discussed in the essay.
