Technology, more specifically the internet, has undeniably changed society. Ken Makovsky, writer of “Is Technology Exceeding Humanity?”, begins his article refuting a quote from Albert Einstein: “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity.” Makovsky argues technology has unleashed humanity, allowing organizations to raise mass amounts of money for donations. For example, Makovsky explains how “members of the social networking site, Reddit, raised $65,000 in less than 24 hours to protect the children and staff at the Faraja Orphanage in Nairobi from machete-wielding thugs.” Without social media, awareness of Faraja’s situation would not have been so widespread, and therefore would not have raised so much money.
