The nozzle-nosed kelp fish is a very elusive fish. It resides in marshy areas where the water is dark and there are many plants.The body of the nozzle-nose is a murky brown which helps it hide in its dark surroundings. It's fins give it the name "kelp fish" because they are are green and and leaf-like and resemble the plants that it feeds upon and hides between. The long dorsal fin resembles a blade of brown algae and the other fins act as little strands of smaller plants. The shiny parts along it's fins bend and mix the light and make it difficult to distinguish. The nozzle nose gets part of its name from its nozzle shaped mouth, which its uses to suck in and filter phytoplankton. It also uses its mouth to break off pieces of small plants.
