Kelly James-Enger's Beyond Animal Testing

There have been multiple trials of humans testing that have failed, which have caused many people to be opposed to animal testing. The opposing side of animal testing believes; animal research does not have to be the only technique available to develop medicines and cosmetic products for the society. Researchers are trying to find alternative ways to obtain new knowledge and research to help better the human society. Kelly James-Enger, the author, of “Beyond Animal Testing,” states, “using animals to predict how humans will respond to drugs or other medical treatments is ‘bad science.’ One alternative is to use human tissues instead of animals, for testing and cosmetics. If products are being made for humans, it would be best to use the primary source it is being used for. "Humans and animals differ too much to make animal research useful” (James-Enger, 1998:1) If this alternative goes in place and is successful it will decrease the millions of animals being killed or injured for the research each year. If this method can be mastered, it will be the best alternative for animal testing. If scientist can use human tissues to develop test models, they will be able to collect more accurate data; which will allow them to produce safer medicines and cosmetic products. Creating and perfecting alternative research methods will take time, and the results may take longer and may not be as accurate as animal testing; so, animal experimentation should remain an option until a more efficient solution is
