Kelly Ayotte Case Study

2. The one theory that has really stuck with me is the importance of a ground game in all politics, whether it be local or not. The Kelly Ayotte campaign prided itself of having a strong ground game. What does that mean; well that means knocking door to door and having conversations about what the voter is thinking and how Kelly Ayotte will address their concerns. If we did not have 200 college students including myself on the ground across New Hampshire, I do not think we would have won a couple of weeks ago. It is important to get the face to face interaction. This is one of the main lessons that I learned and will take with me if I ever work on a campaign again.

Almost immediately after beginning to read Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln, I realized it would be difficult to relate to modern politics due to the vast differences in campaign strategy. Currently, delivery of the speech is not as crucial as the substance, since most voters read the highlights of speeches rather than listen to them in person. Would a different candidate have won in modern times? I believe Chase would have gained more support due to his strong arguments, but would it have made enough of a difference to change the turnout? I was surprised at Chase’s strength and ambition, regarding the horrible loses in his life, and with modern day recognition of mental health, he may have been able to recover more than…

    2) The winner-take-all system in the electoral college is each state gets so many electoral votes based upon their population. When people within those states vote for the candidate that they choose, the person with the most votes gets all of the electoral votes in that state. While the other candidate(s) get zero electoral votes from that state. How candidates run their campaigns is seriously affected by the winner-take-all system in the electoral college. The campaigns are affected because a candidate is not going to spend their time campaigning in a state that they are obviously going to lose, an example being the opponent’s home state.…

Wellstone, for example, was able to turn his strong supporters into dedicated volunteers, activists, and even leaders of his campaign. This bottom up approach allows a campaign to be more personable with individuals in their community and relay the candidates or organizations message to people in his or her community. Lofty argues that “direct voter contact is the most effective way to win a campaign. ”(85) As a consequence, gathering data on voters to determine the amount of votes that are needed to win a campaign is critical to the success model.…

Many people who experience symptoms of mental health or who have been diagnosed with a mental illness have stated that they felt as though their symptoms are dismissed, or lessened (Itkowitz, 2016). As much as there has been progress with many shows changing the narratives of mental illness and online supports, there is still a definite stigma attached to being diagnosed with mental illness (Itkowitz, 2016). I decided to read Megan Rotatori’s survival story. I chose to read her story because I saw her picture and thought that she appears to be someone who many people would not believe to have a mental health diagnosis (Rotatori, 2014). The 20-year-old college student who is currently studying nursing at University of Vermont stated that she…

How did America respond to the dropping of Ivanka Trump? In February, Nordstrom dropped Ivanka Trump from all of its stores. They claimed it was because of “brand quality” and “performance issues", but many think it was based on a political opinion. This decision did not affect anything politically but did frustrate the Trump family quite a bit, resulting in Trump tweeting, “My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing!…

Kim Kardashian’s catapult into the business world and great success over the past decade makes her an ideal walking business model and one of much interest. The reasoning behind this study of Kim Kardashian is simply because her particular road to success is an uncommon one. We live in a society where certain behaviours and standards are forced upon us consciously and subconsciously. We are told that things must be done in a certain order, years of primary, secondary and tertiary education, graduate, get a job, get married, start a family and cease to exist. Kim Kardashian is the epitome of a successful business woman, she is a college dropout, not particularly talented in any skill and began her family before she was married.…

Motivation and emotion are vital in understanding the psychological aspects contributing to, or resulting in, the behavior of an individual. Emotion can be defined as being any intense reaction to an internal or external stimulus which will subsequently interrupt other action, or spur necessary action to occur in a different direction. Motivation is any component of an individual’s life which makes him want to work harder to achieve a goal; this stimulation can either be of an internal drive, or an external one. For this essay, I chose not to discuss emotion, but rather detailed motivation for behavior through discussing several corresponding theories. At the University of Nevada in Las Vegas, presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton and Donald…
