Keller High’s Academic Decathlon team is well-renowned in the state of Texas. However, every team has its own weakness, and Keller’s is mathematics. Though we consistently score among the top schools in our state for the nine other events (outperforming every other team in the subjective events), we are almost always pulled down by our remarkably low math results. Having been a seasoned veteran in advanced and competition math, I volunteered to teach the concepts and applications of each year’s math topics. Compared to our performance before my freshman year (when I began coaching), our math scores had improved greatly after 2013.
