Kevlar
Kevlar (poly para-phenylene terephthalamide) is a registered trademark for para-aromatic polyamide synthetic fiber that contains polymer (multiple chain bonds) which makes it extremely strong. It is flexible, light, and thermal stability allowing this unique synthetic fiber to be used in advanced technology applications such as bulletproof materials.
Invention
The invention of Kevlar® was developed in 1965 by a chemist, Stephanie Kwolek. Kwolek made the breakthrough while working at DuPont Laboratory. While she was working for DuPont™, her research team searched for a lightweight but strong and durable fiber for tires to be used in racing. She dissolved her polymer, poly-p-phenylene-terephthalate and poly benzamide. The solution came out strange, it poured almost like water and cloudy. Kwolek and technician

The military protective coverings such as body armor, flak jackets, protection vests, and military helmets and made with Kevlar fabric which is extremely lightweight giving maximum comfort as well as reduce fatigue for soldiers in the field.Despite its lightweight, Kevlar is five times stronger than steel offering maximum protection against ballistic projectiles. Kevlar is flame resistant and provides thermal protection when exposed to fire.
Mass Transportation These remarkable characteristics of Kevlar ensure manufacturers to build quality, lightweight and more durable modes of transport. The result of lightweight material enables the manufacturers to build airplanes, marine vessel, trains and others in increased fuel efficiency as well as low maintenance cost. In addition, the strength, thermal and fire protection in Kevlar allows protection from fire and contribute to passenger comfort in airplanes, marine vessels, and trains as well.
