Keeping Mice Out Of Your Camper

Decent Essays
A camper or RV brings you months of enjoyment throughout the year, but unless you travel full-time, your camper will be parked for weeks or even months at a time. You may even leave it parked and empty all winter long. That can pose a problem when it comes to mice getting inside and causing damage. Here are a few tips for keeping mice out of your camper or RV so you can avoid damage from gnawing and spare yourself from cleaning up a mess in the spring.

Choose Your Storage Spot Carefully

Parking your camper at a storage facility may be inconvenient, but if you can park it on a concrete pad or store it indoors, it will have added protection from mice. The worst option is to park your RV or camper in a grassy lot because mice will have an easier time finding your camper when hunting a cozy place to spend the winter.

You could even park your camper in an outbuilding or a covered parking pad. The main advantage to keeping your camper on your property is that you can check it frequently for signs of mice. Plus, you can take steps to control mice on your property to limit their numbers.

Seal Gaps In Your Camper Or RV

Just like you need to seal your home to keep out mice, you also need to seal up gaps in your camper. Finding the gaps is tedious work since they are likely to be under the camper or under the engine of the RV. It may not be possible to completely seal all the gaps, but it is worth the effort to seal as many as you can find. Remember that mice are small, so it doesn't take much room for them to squeeze inside, especially if they are cold or hungry. Mice are just as desperate for warm shelter as they are for food in the winter.
