Keep Your Enemies In Front of You: Human connection is crucial to exist, however a person does not need to enjoy the company of all the people in the world. Everyone has different views on subjects and these differences can cause conflict. The maxim Keep Your Enemies In Front of You is displaying how to use conflict with others as an advantage. I feel that this maxim can apply to modern life and politics because human connections are changing perpetually. Mathews states that “the opponent in one fight is often the valued ally in the next” (Mathews 92). This quote describes my opinion that people can grow apart or together at any moment, no matter if it is a friendship or political relationship. I also believe this maxim is an intelligent strategy.
