She was criticized by many men for her paintings of flowers using bright colors.

Her paintings were a slap in the face to men who criticized the way she painted.

These are how the flowers link together to show how she proved the men wrong through her paintings.

All these images represent how Georgia O'Keefe told the men who criticized her that she did not care, and that she would keep drawing her own paintings that she would keep painting the things she wanted painted in her own unique way.

The flowers symbolize Elisa’s virginity. Rather than breeding her flowers, she bypasses normal fertilization and makes clones, propagating the flowers. She cares for her flowers in the most delicate of ways, “her terrier figers [destroying] such pest before they get started” (423). She also provides detailed instructions to the tinker on how to care for them, symbolizing the way she has protected her virginity until this time. When giving away her “beautiful” (423) chrysanthemums to the tinker, they are perfect and pure, where as in the end, they are “a dark speck” (425) on the side of the road.…

The series of artwork by Shirin Neshat called Women of Allah brought a lot of controversial thoughts and spoken words. People view art in their own personal way and these pictures represented a cultural that a lot of people have stereotyped. The images that were produced represented something that most people would not understand, but stood for something to Shirin Neshat. My reaction to the series is that of it representing a culture that some really do not understand. The picture shown in the book, Rebellious Silence, makes me react that the woman is standing up for something that she does not believe is right.…

This might mean that many well-reasoned people were coming and going from the table. Frederick Douglass plainly states in his text: “…to make a contented slave, it is necessary to make a thoughtless one.” The free-thinkers and thoughtful people surrounding the flowers might have encouraged them to break free. Those who helped the slaves escape their plantations would have been free-thinkers too, believing in the basic human right of freedom. Finally, the painting and quote are similar by both the slave’s and flowers’ increased contentment and desires to be free.…

In a way it is a picture of Gatsby’s love for Daisy. A Rose for Emily has a scene that is reminiscent of this one. It says “SHE WAS SICK for a long time. When we saw her again, her hair was cut short, making her look like a girl, with a vague resemblance to those angels in colored church windows--sort of tragic and serene.” When Emily was seen again by this writer of the short story, she is similar in appearance to who she was before the tragedy, but in actuality, she was a very different person, a person who had become twisted by the times, and a person who was so caught up in her past love that she was not able to let it go.…

My inspiration for my art piece was “Minoan Queens”, better know as the “Ladies in Blue. “Ladies in Blue” is a Minoan fresco painting that was discovered in fragments during the excavation of the Palace of Knossos in Crete, Greece. To be more specific, it was Buon fresco, or “true fresco”. It was 61½ inches by 40 inches and it is thought to have been created around 1525-1450 B.C. As we have learned in class, this Cretan palace was full of murals and fresco paintings. Like many Minoan paintings, this piece exhibits profile views but frontal-facing eyes and eyebrows.…
