The commercial sends the message that girls have all of these talents and potential that aren’t fully used because of our social…
The issue this Ad is addressing are the barriers of racism. By using various races of children, they emphasize how vastly different their futures can possibly be. The prevailing issue with society is it elevates itself to a delusional height of grandeur and sees any race other than Caucasian as lesser than. The superiority complex that so encases the majority of society today, compared to anyone that happens to be colored or of lesser fortune, is astounding.…
Nike is known for the empowerment of all types of people, always trying to prove and show that anyone can do anything, that they are invincible while wearing their products. In this specific ad, Nike is reaching out to young girls who are forced into the social norm of being a girl. Girls don’t play sports, kick balls, run. Girls sing, and they gossip and they shop. Nike sets a scene we are all familiar in and can relate to.…
I choose this ad because Target did a really good job on delivering the message of diversity via this ad. The ad is good because Target used hundreds of photos to pull the ad together and form its signature logo. If we look carefully, we can find that every person in the photo is different. These people may from different countries, races, and have different religions. The slogan and the body copy also related to diversity.…
Awarded for Work in Advertising It was not too long after their passing that Resor and Lansdowne Resor were inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame. In 1967, both Resor and Lansdowne Resor’s accomplishments in advertising and philanthropy were noted and celebrated. For Lansdowne Resor, this feat of a woman being inducted into the Advertising Hall of Fame should be noted, but what is more interesting is the couple being inducted.…
Plan B One-Step is intended for women who accidentally become pregnant and do not want to follow through with their pregnancy. The drug advertisement for Plan B One-Step displays what looks to be a content, White middle class young woman. In Western society White women are seen as intelligent women who can afford to purchase medication and have the credentials to decide whether or not they should buy it (Fidell & Prather, 1975, p. 23). This might be the reason a woman of colour is not shown in the ad. Black women are portrayed as poor, uneducated, and reckless individuals compared to their White-skinned counterparts (Glenn, 2009, p. 232).…
With the constant pressure of exams, presentations, meetings, and job fairs, the last thing a college student should worry about is storage space. With the excitement that comes with leaving home and moving into their own dorm or apartment, college students rarely realize the unmet need of storage space. According to Zillow, “closets have been the number two most-requested amenity since 2013.” As students ourselves, we realized the challenge of finding useful products to create organization. To solve this problem, we created Oh Snap!…
By the age of 70 years, smoking 30 cigarettes a day could lead to an equivalent of an extra 14 years of skin ageing. The Real Cost commercial, by the United States Food and Drug Administration, takes place at a convenient store. With the FDA creating this advertisement it shows that smoking is not just a local problem but a national one. A young teenage girl comes and tries to buy some cigarettes. However, she doesn’t have enough money so she rips of her skin to pay for them.…
Verizon has numerous advertisements that demonstrate card stacking propaganda. They over-exaggerate how much their coverage is spread across the United States compared to other cell phone companies. In this one advertisement, two maps of the United States are portrayed. One shows the amount of coverage from Verizon, which takes up almost the whole entire map, and the other presents AT&T, but it only covers remarkably minute scopes of the map. The rest of the map is blank.…
Plato’s Allegory of the Cave and the Nintendo Switch advertisement titled First Look at Nintendo Switch can be analyzed and compared with each other. In Plato’s allegory, prisoners are trapped in the cave and forced to stare at shadows on a wall. When one of the prisoners is freed and exposed to the truth behind the shadows, which is that they are simply objects being manipulated by puppeteers. The freed prisoner is also also introduced to the outdoors, allowing for him to be enlightened. The advertisement is aimed at selling the product but it also uses a similar concept, as the gamers are now permitted to take the device everywhere they go.…
Perfection: Do We Need an Epi-Do-Over? Perfection is the disease of a filter-dependent, self conscious generation of teenagers. They obsess over having flawless hair, flawless bodies, flawless teeth and flawless skin, but they are never able to truly escape their flaws. Imperfection is inevitable, but many people are not content in accepting that reality, especially adolescents struggling with puberty and acne. In a nation that is entirely consumed by the obsession of perfection, the Epiduo advertisement blatantly targets the perfection obsessed teens by recognizing imperfections and offering a solution to make those flaws disappear.…

The importance of a college education has been instilled into the minds of millennials since elementary school. Promises of a good career, higher salary, and overall better life make the idea of going to college more appealing. When selecting a school, students want to know they are being respected and recognized as an individual. Douglas College advertises a focus on the individual to draw students to their school because they realize they are trying to sell an experience in their commercial, “Ignite Your Potential.” It walks the viewer through different spots on campus with a different student having a contributing part to say.…
Coca-Cola has produced thousands of advertisements since the company’s creation with the goal of appealing to a broad range of consumers. Stylistically, Coca-Cola advertisements have changed over time, but their goal remains the same. This paper will use two Coca-Cola advertisements, one released in the United States in 1886 and the other in The Netherlands in May 2015, to discuss the delicate balance between using generalized advertisements compared to a more personalized style. Both of the advertisements advocate for personal satisfaction and a desire to be inclusive. In both cases, they present a range of consumers that can achieve personal happiness.…
