Kayla's Employment Case Study

This counselor received a call from Kayla's manager, Michelle Pickett, on 5/8/18 with concerns regarding Kayla's employment. Michelle stated that she has been on vacation for 2 weeks and just returned back to the office to hear that several complaints have been made regarding Kayla. She stated that she was surprised as Kayla was doing well before she left and chose to investigated things further. She informed this counselor that the center received a parent complaint regarding Kayla being "rough" with one of the infants. She stated that no staff witnessed this, but the center had to take the parent complain seriously. Kayla also had trouble with the crying infants. She would do well with the happy babies, but when they cried she would avoid them. Michelle stated that at that point they …show more content…
Jessica stated that her mom called her all upset talking about how Kayla lost her job. Jessica wanted to get more information from this counselor on what took place so she can get a better understanding as her mom was to upset to explain. This counselor informed Jessica about the conversation had with Michelle and the complaints that were expressed. Jessica was surprised and she couldn't understand why they didn't call this counselor sooner when they saw these issues. This counselor stated she was unsure and explained that she offered job coaching, but their final answer was to let her go. Jessica was really disappointed and agreed that a meeting needs to be set to discuss all these issues and Kayla's behaviors to determine if childcare is an appropriate goal for her. Jessica stated that her mom agreed to tell Kayla about her loosing her job instead of the employer. She stated that Kayla would need sometime to comprehend what happened and get back to a place were she can talk. Once she feels ready it was agreed that she would contact this counselor to set up a
