The Greenville R-II School District began in the mid 1800’s as a loosely affiliated collection of one room schools which served the areas elementary aged children. In 1909, a high school curriculum was added to serve interested older students. In 1925, the district was named the Wayne County Consolidated District No. 3. In 1946, representatives from each local school were organized into a county-wide school board who oversaw the more than twenty-five local school buildings located throughout the community. Goal 1: Kayla will improve her emotional and behavioral regulation. • Kayla was in a good mood when the QP met with her for a session. • Kayla listened as the QP shared what it means to criticize someone. • Kayla focused on how positive criticism by picking the right time and right place, having a calm voice, say what you like about the person first, ask if the person notices a problem, describe how the problem affects others, brainstorm solutions to change, write up a contract for change, and express love. • Kayla reflected on her concern that her foster mother yells and fusses all the time at home.…
One way that MS is affecting Kayla is that she can’t feel her legs when she is running. An example would be “After the first mile, her legs would start to go numb. By the end of the race she couldn’t feel them all.” Another way would be that she can’t stop running like she will fall if she does she will fall. An example for this one would be “And when Kayla stopped running, her legs became shaky.…
My three students Marissa Speroni, Courtney Bodine, and Cassandra Goodwin all have strong writing skills. All of them have a talent for comprehending reading material and writing essays. For the strategic network, all three girls are also very organized and have a desire for doing their work to the best of their ability. Marissa is good at prioritizing, Courtney is very determined, and Cassandra is very focused. Together, their other skills help them find the motivation to complete their tasks to the best of their abilities.…
Ever since I played T-ball, I have always been the skinniest kid on all my sports teams. Being unusually underweight really upset me. I tried everything from eating protein-packed foods to daily weightlifting, but nothing seemed to work. Even some of my friends called me the “Twig.”…

How does race affect the student’s experience of an AP class? Introduction Our high school years are some of the most delicate in our lives and they are also a time in which we develop the most as people. Every day we are surrounded by hundreds of students and teachers wandering the halls of our schools and communities challenging themselves to achieve a better future.…
One academic course that has helped me throughout my middle school term was when I took part in Quest Pullout Program during elementary school. Quest is a curriculum that allows gifted students to do projects that focus on literacy and math using higher level thinking skills, in-depth learning, collaboration, cooperation and presentation skills. Some parts include us doing an annual research project, and during the year we work on puzzles and projects that involve thinking outside of the box. Quest is a program that I deeply loved and it has meant a lot to me since this was one course that kept me challenged during elementary school.…
Since the age of four, I have attended the KIPP Houston Southwest campus. In my time at KIPP Houston High School and KIPP Academy Middle School, I have taken many AP courses expanding my knowledge about this world both culturally and politically. Being at KIPP has not only taught me to not procrastinate and waste valuable work time but to also take advantage of the class time that I have with my teachers in order for me to ask questions and understand the material taught in class. KIPP has taught me many skills preparing me for life, for instance, knowledge of working on a computer as well as helping me improve my Spanish speaking skills since I was four. In the academic-based curriculum, I developed a love for reading and writing; moreover,…
My first, and possibly biggest, endeavor as an incoming student was joining PRISM, the Advanced Program for Integrated Science and Math. The program provides some of the most advanced undergraduate science courses at UM and I was eager to take on the challenge. The rigor of the classes pushed me to expand my critical thinking skills and explore my scientific interests through integrated learning approaches. Being a part of this program allowed me to advance myself academically, make valuable connections across scientific disciplines, and gain vital experience in group-based learning through peer-driven labs, discussion sections, and study…
Students of all types can be found on any high school campus. There are so many distinct types of high school students for example, there are the jocks and the popular and nerds and so on but each of them share a common type. There are three most common types of students: the overachievers, the slacker, and finally the average student. Each different type of student has their own characteristics of their ability for the amount of work they put in school, study habits, and their altitude toward school. The students’ characteristics they pertain not only affect them throughout high school, it may stick with them throughout life, which may or many not help them succeed.…
The first time I went to the career center was in my sophomore year. I was extremely stressed about declaring my major since this decision would determine the course of my future career. My indecisiveness began inhibiting my academic progress due to enrolling in irrelevant classes. It was during this walk-in that I first met Kay. Her friendliness helped ease the anxiety I felt about my situation and allowed me to comfortably disclose my thoughts, fears, and opinions.…
Learning happens through reading, writing, listening, communicating and by observing the surroundings. “Independent learning is a process, a method and a philos ophy of education whereby a learner acquires knowledge by his or her own efforts and develops the ability for enquiry and critical evaluation” (Candy, 1991). Independent learning can be known as self-directed learning. Students prefer tutor to provide them learning materials, however independent learning is beneficial as it helps them to acquire information, learn to manage time and identify their weakness in learning.…
