Kay Rapholtz was deeply hurt during the recession. She was a single parent and had two teenagers to care for. She had first lost her job in 2001 due to layoffs. Following that she went back to school to recieve a better degree and a more 'stable' job. She found one in a drug and alcohol facility. However, two weeks after a gall bladder surgury she learned that she would be laid off. Shortly after her job loss, she learned her house would be foreclosed on. The payments were too high and there was nothing she could do, so her family moved into an apartment as she looked for and possible job. She found one but it wasn't great.
