We all know and love Katy Perry for the high-flying, bold artist she is today. Her jovial, fun-loving spirit has inspired millions to be their own "Fireworks". But Katy didn't start out as a "California Gurl;" her path to stardom was a tough one.

Katy's upbringing was much more conservative that her first hit single would have you believe. According to biography.com, Her first album was gospel, titled Katy Hudson. Unfortunately, it wasn't very popular and didn't take off before the record label went bankrupt.

Katy spent the next few years acquiring her GED, which she finished at 15. She then worked with Glen Ballard until her eventual release of the single "Ur So Gay." However, Katy Perry wasn't truly born until the next single, "I Kissed a Girl," Which took the music world by storm in the summer of 2008, when she earned a Grammy Award for the song. It reached the top 10 in the Billboard Hot 100. Shortly afterward, her album "One of the Boys" topped charts From there, Katy Perry's musical talent took her far and wide on her Warped Tour.

It took quite a few years, some serious struggle, and a lot of determination for Katy to reach stardom, but now she's a constant in the pop music genre. Even when she isn't singing Katy Perry is an inspiration to all of us to be the best at what we are: ourselves
