Motivation is an individual’s willingness and determination to fulfill a specific goal. Katniss is motivated and determined to protect her family. Specifically, she assumes the role of “head of the household when her father dies. This is an example of Intrinsic motivation. This is defined as motivation driven by internal factors. For example, Katniss’ decision to fight is incentivized by her devotion and her sense of responsibility towards her family. She is not seeking any personal gain from it, other than to ensure that her family does not starve. Inorder to protect her self and provide for her family, she must use her expert power, that is her hunting and gathering skillls that her father taught her. When Katniss decides to fight in the hunger games, she hopes to fulfill her Physiological needs which include, hunger, thirst and shelter.
