The day of the reaping determines which boy and girl, from the ages of twelve to eighteen, will enter into the arena to fight for their district until there is only one tribute remaining. And out of all the girls in district twelve, Prim’s name was selected. Katniss volunteers to take the place of her twelve-year-old sister, and she becomes the female tribute for district twelve. While resting high up in a tree she spots the Careers, the wealthier districts, and Peeta. They had formed an alliance together to hunt and kill off the weakest tributes first.
