Dystopian Society In The Hunger Games By Suzanne Collins

In the dystopian novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen lives in a dystopian society that is separated into 12 Districts where they have annual “Hunger Games.” A boy and a girl from each district are placed into an arena to fight to the death but there can only be one victor, that is rained with glory, riches, and has the privilege to live in the “Victor’s Village” of their respective Districts. Katniss’ sister, Prim, was drawn and was sentenced to fight in The Hunger Games. But Katniss volunteered and went instead of her sister. In the Games, her best and most useful qualities were shown and she was not to be taken as a weak opponent, and the hardships that hardened her as a person. Katniss is extremely perserverant, fearless, and selfless. For example in page 28 it states, “But the money ran out and we were slowly starving to death.There's no other way to put it. I kept telling myself if I could only hold out until May, just May 8th, I would turn twelve and be able to sign up for the tesserae and get that precious grain and oil to feed us.” We can see …show more content…

And now it never will.” She does not like having debts, she's strong and it does not matter if she’s alone or if she is with people. It is wise to not underestimate her. In conclusion, Katniss Everdeen has proved herself as a strong competitor with her great qualities and abilities, which have lead her to win the Hunger Games. She has shown courage when she went to the feast to get medicine for Peeta, who was dying of blood poisoning.
