This was going to be the 74th annual Hunger Games. This obstacle is the biggest obstacle some one could face because of the fact that this is literally a life or death situation. There is one winner who survives and 23 losers who don’t. Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch – this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy. How little chance we would stand of surviving another rebellion. Whatever words they use, the real message is clear. “Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and there’s nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you. Just as we did in District Thirteen.” (1.76) These games are no joke either. There are not only people after you to kill you, the capitol will send wild beasts, light forests fires, and change the climate where it is unbearable to stand. “’There’s almost always some wood’,” Gale says. “’Since that year half of them died of cold. She knew that she had to protect her family so she was the one to volunteer to keep her sister safe. The survival of her life in Panem was one thing, but the survival of the Hunger Games is completely different. This is a life or death situation. “I can't win. Prim must know that in her heart. The competition will be far beyond my abilities. Kids from wealthier districts, where winning is a huge honor, who've been trained their whole lives for this. Boys who are two to three times my size. Girls who know twenty different ways to kill you with a knife. Oh, there'll be people like me, too. People to weed out before the real fun begins.” (3.13) In order to survive the
