Dead silence reminisces through District 12 as Katniss Everdeen has just willingly volunteered to end her life. Katniss Everdeen is the main character in the thrilling novel The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. Katniss lives in a dystopian dictatorship called Panem. Panem is made up of twelve districts and the Capitol. Every year, the Capitol bands two youth from each district to battle in an arena to a bloody end. The event was created to remind the districts of the capitols overbearing power and rule. This deadly event, that Katniss Everdeen has volunteered for, is known as the Hunger Games! In the novel, Katniss is given a combination of these three for the games by a, “woman in a white coat [who] approaches [her] carrying a syringe, ‘This is just your tracker, Katniss”’(Collins 151). This tracker was made so that the, “Gamemakers [would] always be able to trace [her] whereabouts in the arena” (151). In reality, there are many devices that relay this type of information already, like a smartphone and a particularly new device called tile. Tile is a small locater device, that when active, can help locate an object that it has been placed on or near similar to the purpose of the gamemakers’ trackers. Meanwhile, a smartphone relays all sorts of data from GPS to call history making easy to learn a lot about an individual.
