Katniss: A Narrative Analysis

We follow Katniss and Peeta into the arena, and watch as the tributes form alliances. Katniss has formed a connection with Rue, the girl from District 11. They want to take out the large alliance, and separate to destroy a stockpile of supplies that belongs to the large alliance in the arena. When they meet again, Rue is hit, in the heart, by a spear thrown by another tribute (The Hunger Games). Katniss, though she is very clearly overwhelmed with heartbreak, remains calm for Rue. Rue asks Katniss to sing, as tears slowly roll from her eyes. Katniss' singing is met by soft, ringing chords, and is then eventually drowned out by the chords as Rue dies. Katniss' face is wet from tears, and she sobs heavily as the music continues to play softly. Katniss then has a look of sad determination on her face, and as she begins to surround Rue's body with flowers the music grows substantially (The Hunger Games). The sound of sweeping strings and strong low chords, mixed with Katniss paying her respects to Rue, pull a heartbreaking sadness from those who are …show more content…
They had been told that if two tributes from the same district lived until the end, they would both be crowned as winners. However, as soon as the last tribute has died, they revoke the offer (The Hunger Games). Peeta tells Katniss to kill him so that she can live, and sad sounding music begins to play at a low volume. The looks of heartbreak overwhelm their faces, but she then pulls out deadly berries with the idea that they both die. Katniss comes up with the idea of them killing themselves, and pulls poisonous berries from her pocket. As they prepare to eat the berries, the music grows stronger and helps the emotions to grow.
