Katie had to make a huge decision in leaving her abusive husband in the beginning in the book, Katie made very smart decisions, but she was also very scared. Her first decision that made her character very smart was just leaving her husband in the first place (Sparks 18). Katie’s birth name is actually Erin. Erin legally changed her name to Katie, because Katie was so freighted that her husband Kevin would come to find her and take her home. Katie traveled by bus instead of, plane, car, or taxi, because then her payments could have been traced when buying gas or a plane ticket. Katie dyed her hair from blond to dark brown, and cut most of it off and stuffed her shirt to make it look like she was pregnant. Katie was actually found on the bus
