Not even an exaggeration, she is kept captive by Petruchio, and denied basic necessities until she bends to his whim. Her final speech is evidence that Kate will say and do whatever Petruchio wants, even if she doesn’t want to or believe what she is saying. The abuse she endures is how he ‘tames’ her, she doesn’t love him. Katherine is doing what she knows she must to ensure she is given what she needs. This is evident in her final speech, she calls Petruchio names of authority and compares herself to submissive roles in comparison, she does not use names that would be considered loving or endearing. If anything, Katherine is afraid, her personality, and her whole demeanour changes because it is forced
