Personality of Granny Weatherall In the Jilting of Granny Weatherall, granny is lying in her bed unknowingly on her way to death. Katherine Porter used life experiences to remind Ellen of what she has accomplished during the span of her life, imaging what those who are not there anymore would like of the job she has done. Giving Ellen a sense of relief as she did the very best that she could for not only herself, but for her children and all the others in the town. As these experiences continue to play in and out of her failing consciousness it gives the readers an insight upon what she was like, not only the things she did but how she went about doing them. Granny Weatherall is shown throughout the book as a strong women who needs to be in control with little to no help. She despises the idea of a doctor coming to look over her, …show more content…
The haunting past comes into focus, as to show that her life is passing by her before the enviable fate. For sixty years she suppressed the memory of the day she was jilted. Remembering that day brought a sense of hell. Her soul felt as the two were merging together, where was she going, sixty years of prayer to redeem the soul, living righteously so that the soul would travel through the clouds to the pearl gates of heaven where St. Peter awaited arrival, which was the ultimate goal. She was confused as her life was spent doing what was known to be right, but this one act was going to drag her down. Until, a voice reminded her that she was not the only one. “Don’t let your wounded vanity get the upper hand of you. Plenty of girls get jilted. You were jilted, weren’t you?
