Katherine Coleman Johnson is a huge inspiration for many African-American women. She lived in a time where many African Americans were looked down upon, especially women. Despite those huge barriers, she broke those barriers seemingly effortlessly. Katherine Coleman was born in 1918 it at a young age her parents And teachers noticed how gifted of a student she was. At the young age of 10, she attended the West Virginia State College, which is now known as West Virginia State University and graduated at the age of 14. Many of her professors mentored her along the way. One of her mentors, W.W. Schiefflin Claytor, was the third African American to receive a Ph.D. in math.
