Kate Winslet Golden Globe Acceptance Speech Analysis

Decent Essays
The speech I have chosen is Kate Winslet's Golden Globe acceptance speech. Winslet won the award in the ceremony of 2009 for her performance in the film "Revolutionary Road." An acceptance speech is, as the name indicates, an speech to express gratitude for an award. Its objective is to sincerely convey one's appreciation for the recognition of one's hard work. In this particular speech, an emotional and teary-eyed Winslet effectively delivers her acceptance by utilizing the correct format of this type of special occasion speeches: what the award means to her, thanking the people who helped her, and thanking the people who gave her the award.

I believe this was a very good acceptance speech by Mrs. Winslet who came off very sincere

Her speech is very casual, and this leads to the audience allowing their guards to drop, and are much more easily swayed by the pathos she presents. This strategy is very effective, as it allows for the talk to become a much more intimate and heartfelt dialogue than it would be otherwise. Brené Brown’s The Power of Vulnerability is extraordinarily effective at conveying this message of opening yourself up being the “key to happiness” in a sense, as she even does it herself within the talk to wonderful…

There are many standout moments that I would like to mention, but first I would like to say that I am very impressed with this film, I always have been wondering all these things and I like the fact that we are learning about them in this class. The first standout moment for me was when the man and his family lost their farm. It called my attention because my family and some families from this area had to go through this same situation a few years ago. Second standout moment: the pilots’ salaries from 16,000 to 22,000 yearly! That’s ridiculous, some of them had to ask for food stamps, some of them have a second job, that remind me a time when a met a paramedic working at a warehouse, I asked him why he was working there, and he told me that he was getting pay more there for opening boxes than saving lives and even though he loved to be a paramedic he needed the money.…

After watching all four video, on the most famous speech in literature it is hard to chose which is the "best". If had to pick the top two I would say that Ethan Hawke was the best followed closely by Oliver's Hamlet Film's. Both of these videos were easy to watch and enjoyable. They both were able to gain the listener's attention from the beginning of the speech. I believe the Ethan Hawke rendition to be the best since it was the most interesting.…

Not only did she preach her distaste for the topic to the National American Woman Suffrage Association, but also worked with her fellow members of the same gender to eradicate child labor. In her speech, Florence Kelley uses repetition, facts as well as logical statements, and words and phrases that appeal to the reader's’ (or audience’s) feelings of either guilt or sorrow to convey her message of opposition to her audience. Within the beginning of her speech, Kelley repeats the phrase, “while we sleep” to target the guilt of those responsible, as well as the sorrow of those against child labor.…
