In this movie, the two actors learned to know each other, respect one another to work together for a common cause. In Karate Kid the two main actors are different, one is black (Jaden) and the other one (Chinese). The actors are from different places, they speak different languages and have different cultures. He learned how to behave as a local Chinese citizen and how to fight by learning Kung Fu. Each of them shared their cultures and knowledge as Jaden an impulsive typical American boy who suffered from his parent's death and Mr. Chang a former Kung Fu master who deeply have remorse about his life and begin to see Jaden as his own son.
The movie illustrated the relationship between the master and his student as they cast an old Chinese man and a young man in the movie. The old master had sometimes issues to understand the young boy due to his young age and the difference in culture and learned slowly how and why the kid sometimes behave.
The movie also had insidious stereotypes like Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith learned from the past, this was to point out and to poke some stereotypes about Asians people. The film parodies the idea that all Asians are martial art master in Kung Fu and can pick a fight with anybody and win the fight or grab a fly with chopsticks in the air like nothing.
There is always this image that surrounds Hollywood thought about Asians. In the way that we have to respect our elders, obey authority.
