The poem “The story of hour” has a complex plot because it has an exposition. The protagonist character in the poem is Louis Mallard who currently is married to Brently Mallard. This poem takes place in the nineteenth century during a time period back when women had not as many rights as men. Given the harsh news of Mr. Mallard sudden death in public, the newly widow, Mrs. Mallard put on the facade of feeling sorrowful and mourning over her husband's death but behind closed doors, however when she was alone she felt as if she was finally “free” from him.This is due to the pain she had to endure while her husband was alive and relieved when he finally been said to have died. That same day goes on and the wife herself find that her husband in fact did not die, but ironically she dies of a heart disease,that she has been suffering from, that same day. Ultimately the question still stands, did Mrs.Mallard finally get the freedom she always longed awaited for although she died in the end of heart
