Kate Chopin's Short Story Of An Hour

Imagine if you were with someone, and they controlled you. All they have done was run over you and ruin your life. Sounds miserable, right? But then, all of a sudden, you get the news they were killed. You would be so happy. You would not know how to react other than joyous. In reality, they did not really get killed and they walk back into your life, and then you die. That is the case with Mrs. Mallard, and how she thought her husband was killed. Kate Chopin writes this story to illustrate that women were oppressed in marriage relationships and did not feel as if they were able to leave. I believe Mrs. Mallard was hiding the abuse of her husband to people and they were scared she was going crazy and reacting wrong to his death. Josephine was at the door saying, “Louise, open the door! I beg; open the door-you will make yourself ill…” She thought Mrs. Mallard was going insane because of the death. People may go insane of happiness, yet other may misinterpret the feelings the people are giving off. The happiest people sometimes have the worst stories to hide. When someone is away from their abuse, they react with happiness. They are joyous because they finally have a life of their own. Some people would say that if you are being abused and control in a relationship, you can leave. They say you are choosing to suffer and that you should not complain about what is going on. Sometimes, they may not believe that you are in that type of relationship. They can be in denial because they want proof or they believe they know the person, and they honestly do not in reality. I believe people are quick to judge off of the little they may see. Sometimes, the first impression may be wrong.
