The poem is highly relatable. Everyone is subject to reflect what occurs in their daily life or subconscious minds, in their dreams. Memories and vivid imagery typically tends to identify itself in dreams. Dreams can reflect a lot of what is occurring in the subconscious mind. The brain stores memories and can replay them like movies in a theater. The great use of imagery and a mood of honest reality surges through the poem. The poem begins in flashback. The author is reflecting upon a past memory when both opf her parents were alive. The mood shifts from being happy and reminiscent, to slight sadness. She manages to dream so deeply that she is transported to her old home. Karr states,” A light in the hall-/ my father in the doorway, not

In Trish McCallister’s poem The Dream, she portrays a flashback versus current life through the use of poetic techniques, as she compares her life to her mothers past. The metaphor in the line ‘fear is my constant companion’ helps convey how tragic her mothers life was, constantly surrounded by fear, which makes the reader feel sympathetic. McCallister’s use of imagery in the line ‘wake up with the sun’ helps to portray how lucky she is to wake up…

When writing a poem a poet can twist a subject into whatever perspective they see fit. While Kilee Greethurst wrote her poems based on her experiences she opened up her thoughts and feelings to give the readers a wall of emotion and imagery. In order to portray these feelings of happiness and romance, she used the concept of bliss as her overall theme. All of Greethurst’s poems revolve around the idea of a blissful state of mind, creating a theme of happiness and love.…

Dr. Eric Skaar from the Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at Vanderbilt University, School of Medicine, gave this seminar on November 9, 2015. He talks about finding therapeutic targets for Staphylococcus aureus. He states that metals are required for infection and that bacteria encode high affinity metal acquisition systems. Heme, which is a cofactor of hemoglobin, is known to be the most abundant iron source in the vertebrate host, and is the main focus of this seminar. The first step in heme metabolism in Gram-positive pathogens occurs in an iron-regulated surface determinant (isd) system, which has a hemoglobin receptor called isdB. S. aureus preferentially binds to human hemoglobin, so they created a humanized…

Life is a beautiful thing. This is further reinforced by “The Century Quilt” as it uses its tone, structure, and imagery to achieve this to be its message to the reader. Warnicke’s use of literacy elements throughout the poem also does this. The poem is about an old man or woman reflecting on the long life they had lived.…

This poem is about racism and discrimination. In this situation, the reason why I choose this poem was because the author has a positive attitude and I also enjoy this poem. From this poem, I learned how people discriminate each other in different forms and ways like when people talk behind your back or even force you to do something that you don’t really like. It reminds me of a previous experience I encounter, which was getting a perfect score on a test, and my classmates accused me of cheating. Therefore, I do not really like this part of the poem, because it reveals the unpleasant side of human beings.…

After thoroughly enjoying the poems “My Father's Hats” by Mark Irwin, “My Papa's Waltz" by Theodore Roethke, and "Those Winter Sundays" by Robert Hayden, I would say the one that stood out to me the most would be Robert Hayden’s poem. The poems are the same due to all the authors relaying their feelings towards the relationships with their father. They all seem to have reverence for the man, but in different ways disconnected from an actual relationship with them. It is as if the fathers were a figment of their imagination, something that was there but completely not reachable or truly understandable in their eyes.…

I really liked this poem and the way Vorreyer put it together. I thought it was interesting and easy to read and understand at the same time. The diction that she chooses to use really stood out to me. She used phrases like “Dickensian bedrooms” and “Ellis Island of diction” which I thought really fit the poem nicely and gave it character. They are also quite descriptive phrases that paint a picture in your mind.…

I think this poem captures exactly what the title says. I feel that you captured the tone and pace of the music you selected almost perfectly. There is only one small part in the first stanza where you use Claire De Lune which I hear as an entirely peaceful song. I had a hard time visualizing the torment of and heartache you describe at the end of that stanza.…

Journal Rape At the beginning of this poem I thought the cop was the rapist, and she had to report her rape to him. However, towards the end, I thought the speaker was comparing how similar the two experiences were, and how the speaker will constantly be thinking about the rape. Therefore, everything will remind her of the event. However, another reaction some people received was that all men will remind her of her rapist.…

However, we see it even more as we delve deeper into the poem. It is with words and phrases such as “sweet death” and “enduring life” that the author so vividly describes the contrast between a baby and his parents. The author uses his choice of vocabulary to effect the reader. He wants to make them truly understand what he is feeling, and what he is trying to make them feel as well. He also uses his word order to move the poem in certain directions.…

The poem “Head, Heart” by Lydia Davis is short, but has a very powerful message. To me, the author is speaking of a broken heart story. An issue that a lot of people my age struggle with.
