Sexuality: A Moral Issue Karl Rahner describes personhood as the, “condition of the possibility.” Personhood is something that is developed in each person as they become an adult and it is what makes each human unique. This personhood is what gives actions their human importance. So, it is personhood that gives each person the right to be themselves and to be unique. Recently, there has been a lot of commotion around the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Queer community (LGBTQ). Inalienable rights include life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. This idea is what makes our country so desirable because it allows people to express themselves sexually. People living in the United States are very passionate on being able to exercise their rights. Other countries are not as open to new ideas of sexuality. For example, a total of 74 countries still have laws against gay sex. This is a staggering amount of countries that punish their civilians because of their conservative views of sexuality. The freedom in this country is the reason that there are nine million members of the LGBTQ organization. Also, 3.5 percent of Americans classify as being lesbian, gay, or bisexual. These numbers will only continue to grow as these communities continue to gain awareness and support. As a native born citizen, I feel blessed to be in a country where I can practice, live out, and worship what I believe. The LGBTQ practices their beliefs in this country as well and that is their right that no one can infringe …show more content…
The Bible begins in Genesis; God creates the first man and women: Adam and Eve. He says they are to be one and they shall be fruitful and multiply. God is pretty clear what his visions are for marriage and relationships from the beginning. Later, in Ephesians, Paul writes a letter to the Romans to teach what it means to be a Christian. Ephesians 5:3 is clear and. simple, “But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.” Later in Ephesians 5:22-24, Paul explains why sexual morality is so important, “Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the Church, his body, and himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.” Relationships between man and woman are supposed to help us better understand the relationship between Christ and man. If a person is participating in sexually immoral acts, they will never understand this relationship and will have a failing faith. Last book that I will discuss is 1 Corinthians. Paul wrote this letter to the Town of Corinth to answer questions and tell them the Word of God. He makes a profound statement in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 saying, “Or do you not know that wrongdoers will not

However, that can and has been taken to the extreme. The ultra-conservative, Puritan view on sexual relationships was that sex even inside the marriage relationship was sinful unless it fulfilled the command to multiply in Gen 1:28. However, this is not the biblical perspective (1 Cor 7:5; Heb 13:4; 1 Tim 4:3). Scriptures consider it holy within marriage.…

Although, it may be true that the husbands and wives are equally recognized by God, Paul’s letter to the Ephesians in chapter 5 verses 22-33 does imply that the husband is the head of the wife, the wife must be submissive to the husband, and the responsibility of the husbands is to love their wives as Christ loves the church. The institution of marriage has always been the core of society, and through this human activity the birthing of morals, values, and spiritual engagement came to be. Furthermore, in Genesis 2:22, God created women from one of the ribs of man, woman is part of man, so many will suggest that through this process woman is equal to him. However, Paul Enns the author of The Moody Handbook of Theology argues, “The Bible teaches…

Within John Chrysosomes writing it is obvious that he finds wives incredibly important for a male and tends to respect them far more than many of the other readings. He stresses the importance of a positive marriage even though he states that men are primarily head of the household. Within the text it is constantly stated that men must treat their wives with respect, not violate them and that the husband is basically raising their wives like a child and forming them perfectly for God, not for the husbands benefit, showing that men do have some forms of power over women. Within the chapter ‘Men Outside Of Marriage”, the concept of a double standard was obvious. A man was able to get away with far more than a female when it came to sexual ethics,…

The younger the student’s age, the more nurturing and protective the teachers have to be in order to best aid the students’ development and also to please the parents. By being more protecting over things such as bullying or abuse puts even the teachers up for suspicion. Men doing anything feminine causes others to question their masculinity and leads to suspicion of homosexuality and pedophilia. In Paul Sargent’s study on male elementary school teachers he writes, “Suspicions of homosexuality and the conflation of gayness with pedophilia are powerful sanctions that carry legal implications. Loss of one’s job and threats of jail time can bring even the most rebellious gender outlaw into line,” (pg. 414, 2000).…

In this letter, there were questions the church of Corinth asked and one was about man and woman relationships. Paul here states that it is plainly not good for man to touch woman as it leads to other lusts. Now other than the fundamental thought of boy and girl we are dealing with a city upon which sex is worshipped, literally. “But, Because of immoralities you must marry…” sets off the whole chapter. This chapter is on the teaching of marriage, yet again Paul states, because of your immoralities you must marry, we will get to this talk on Paul and marriage.…

Furthermore, Paul states that “the wife should not separate from her husband, and the husband should not divorce his wife.” In these statements, Paul is not only advocating for mutual fidelity, but he clearly advocates for monogamy as well. Paul’s thoughts on marriage draw from Greeks in terms of monogamy, from Jews on matters of fidelity, and then from his own divine revelation (or creativity) on sex within marriage. Rather than viewing the topic as taboo, Paul confronts sex within marriage by strongly encouraging it. Paul implores that a husband “should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband.”…

Humans have always struggled with sexaul impurity and I am imagining that the early Church is no different. Paul is simply offering a word of encouragement to the his brothers and sisters to not forsake their beliefs for a temporary moment to satisfy the needs of the flesh. God is speaking through Paul to tell them to hold fast in their holiness and honor and to not follow the ways of the Gentiles who do not know God.…
