One of Emile Durkheim’s famous theory are his types of suicides. He theorized that there are four different types of suicide; egoistic, altruistic, anomic, and fatalistic. Egoistic suicide occurs when a person begins to feel as a loner in their social group. Altruistic suicide is when a person becomes too involved in their social group that their own personal needs are forgotten. Anomic suicide occurs when there is a lack of social norms. The last type, fatalistic suicide, is when a person feels they have no control over their life. Anomic suicide is still a modern issue throughout society for the rich and poor.

Marx’s four types are alienation from the product of labor, labor process, fellow humans, and human nature. When someone else is in control of the product, the one who created it becomes alienated from the product itself. Durkheim’s discovery of the four types of suicide follow more into the path of social factors being the cause. People need to feel grounded with norms to feel safe. The reasons for suicide will change just as society changes through time with norms and values. Therefore, I do not believe we will discover a clear reason for why people commit suicide, however, there are ways to seek the rates of it like Durkheim has. We as a society can find ways to prevent suicide from happening. As we have seen many of the issues happen with people not having any guidance or roles in their community. I believe a solution for this could be more appreciation through the workplace to cut the senses of alienation and to create relationships with one another. However, this is easier said than done. It is up to the person to want to make a change or
