Sternheimer writes this article in order to prove the misconception that video games are the cause of murders, is in fact a farce, and there are statistics to back her opinion up. Sternheimer argues that there are other defining factors that cause murders, and video games are the last thing people should be worried about. Sternheimer claims video games have been the scapegoat whenever a shooting has occurred. She states, politicians have the cast the blame on video games, and different forms of media, and labeled them as the number one cause of youth violence, and endangerment. Furthermore, Sternheimer asserts that not only are politicians to blame on the criticism of video games the media is at fault as well. Sternheimer details the harsh headlines that come after a shooting, such as, "Days of Doom" (184), and how much more blame the public subject video games to, when they see titles like this. The media even go as far as to provide interviews form so-called experts, who bash video games without going into depth, for example, David Grossman who calls video games "murder simulators" (186) and makes an absurd claim that video games could be similar to military training. Secondly, Sternheimer brings in research to further prove her argument, by claiming research shows that video games are actually helpful, and do not cause violent behavior. Sternheimer claims that any speculation of aggression correlating to violent media is incidental, and from the research of psychologist, Jonathan Freedman, violent media such as video games produced results that were, "inconsistent or even contradicts the claim that exposure to media violence causes
