Karen Edwards Maternity Leave

Improved Essays
Karen Edwards and Shaun Bayes have capitalized on the former's year of maternity leave to travel across the US, Central America, and South America with Esme and Quinn, their two children. The family packed their travel bags nine weeks after Quinn's birth.
ABC reported that Edwards, a nurse manager at a London hospital, sustained full or partial payment through nine months of maternity leave, while the final three months of her leave were unpaid. The family rented out their London residence to augment their costs. Edwards pulled off all the efforts to inform people about how easy it is to care for their child when traveling instead of staying at home to spend the most of the maternity leave.
Edwards documented her family's journey via the Travel Mad Mum Instagram account that has featured numerous photos and travel tips that travelers can learn, while the couple's respective Instagram accounts also featured photos of the family at tourism destinations in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Belize to name a few.

Edwards also guaranteed that the couple is exercising all the crucial precautions in dealing with their children's health, and mentioned that she and her husband are keen travelers who do not want to relinquish their travel

Another problem businesses have with extending maternity leave is the fact some employees never return from maternity leave at all. This can be particularly saddening if the employee was well-liked, but other employees wait until the minute to notify their supervisors they will not be returning. At that point, the temporary employee has already been given their last day and the employer must begin the whole recruitment process over again. Many employers also become frustrated with women who come back from leave and expect the same pay and level of authority, but also the flexibility to work fewer hours and to leave early for soccer games and ballet recitals. Some employers have even admitted that there is a temptation to avoid hiring young…

The 1970 Act only dealt with equal pay for the same work but in 1975 the EU directive on Equal Pay was passed based on article 119. In 1978, despite the passage of legislation to promote equal pay, women’s position in the UK was still worse than in Italy, France, Germany, or the Benelux countries in 1972. However, The Act has now been mostly superseded by Part 5, chapter 3, of the Equality Act 2010. The Equality Act 2010 legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and in wider society. The act has made it against the law to discriminate against anyone because of age, being or becoming a transsexual person, being married or in a civil partnership, being pregnant or having a child, disability, race including colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion, belief or lack of religion/belief, sex or sexual…
