The least convincing between the two arguments was the article written by famous ex-basketball player, Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Although his argument was well stated, it only offered a limited view on the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attacks by Muslim Radicals. Jabbar spoke out as a Muslim-American and condemned the actions taken by “Muslims” in Paris, France. Jabbar later went into depth about how the American people lived through a similar phase, back when the Ku Klux Klan roamed American soil. He used that information to support his claim that Muslim terrorists are not Muslims, in fact, they are simply people trying to make money and pinning it on the Islamic religion.
Jabbar’s article was limited in the sense that he based off his argument on one

“Modern-day Witch Hunts: Broadly targeting the Muslim Community is antithetical to America’s founding ideas” The general argument made by Jamie Dailey in “Modern-day Witch Hunts: Broadly targeting the Muslim Community is antithetical to America’s founding ideas” is that all Muslims are being besieged after the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001. More specifically, Dailey reasons that the fears that Americans hold are irrational in that they cause a light to be shown on the entire Muslim community in response to the attacks of terrorism that occurred on September 11. Dailey mentions the “Ground Zero Mosque” which is very close to the site of the previous World Trade Center, “ the persecution of Muslim Americans takes many…

Ever since the attacks on 9/11, hate crimes have jumped by 21% (Villemez). Many angry Americans punished Muslims because of their religion, however, the Muslim religion does not teach any actions that relate to violence and injustice. The mistreatment of Muslims is only because Al-Qaeda claims to be Muslim. However, they are an Islamic based terrorist group, disobeying many rules and regulations of Islam. For example, Vanita Gupta, leader of the Justice Department’s Civil rights division, said, ““We saw it after 9/11, and we continue to see an uptick in allegations of hate-related incidents today following the tragic events over the past year,”(Villemez).…

Muslim have been involved only one percent less than Jewish people in terrorist attacks. The use of the media should build positive outlook about the ethnic differences, instead of Maher´s broadcasting a presumed connection between ISIS and Muslims and expressing intolerance, discomfort, and lack of comprehension about the Muslim community. Western society has a pivotal role to develop the understanding that not all Muslims are terrorists, violent or killers. The majority of them want to have a peaceful life like anybody…

Ever since the 9-11 attack, we have discriminated against people that look Muslim, or practice Muslim traditions. In today's world when I see a Muslim person I immediately think about terrorism since I know that some of these terrorist groups are muslim, but we only hear about the horrible events they do. America as a whole only wants to see Muslims as a disgraceful group because of the 9-11 attacks, and the terrible events that a few people of Muslim culture committed. Randy Halstrom, my grandfather, who was 56 years old at the time of the attack said, “My view did change on Muslims until I realized that not all Muslims think the same as those terrorists who were behind the 9-11 attacks.” Randy, like most people at the time, thought all Muslims were horrible after these attacks, but later realized that these terrorists were a select few of the Muslim population that committed these crimes.…

I disagree simply because Islamic terrorism isn’t the only kind of terrorism or extremism, for example, the shooting at Planned Parenthood in 2015 was never labeled as a terrorist attack but it actually was a perfect example of it. Terrorism is violent intimidation in the pursuit of one’s opinion which could also mean that the four police officer shootings in Baton Rouge were acts of…

The Editorial Board of the New York Times’ article, “The Republican Attack on Muslims,” was written to call out Republicans on their false accusations and statements on the Muslim religion and people as a whole. The purpose of this article is to point out and stop Anti-Muslims throughout the Republican party and the people that follow them, who give American Muslims a bad reputation, in which ruins their chances of ever potentially becoming President. Muslims are people that follow the religion of Islam; they are also refugees who are brought over to adapt to our way of living, but their religion is to remain respected. Republicans, recently, Ben Carson, are bashing Muslims and their religious beliefs. In the article, “The Republican Attack on Muslims,” by the Editorial Board, they mention that Ben Carson declared on “Meet the Press” that Muslims are unfit to run for president because a president’s faith should be “consistent with the Constitution (The Editorial Board 1).”…

Thanks to groups such as ISIS, many Americans believe that Muslims are extremists and believe the religion to meant to teach others violence while in contrast Islam actually a religion of peace. “We are thus tracing the history not only of a signifier, a label, but also a history of its effects”(Appiah,43). Appiah talks about how history is significant in identifying a group. Such as the term African to Negro because of the history of slavery. So by tracing the history of terrorist attacks in America going back to 9/11, the public has put a “badge” on Muslims as terrorists and extremists.…

In early January, two gunmen attacked the Charlie Hebdo headquarters, killing 12 people and injuring several others. The two gunmen were said to be part of al-Qaeda, ruling this attack as a terrorist act. Looking deeper into the history and nature of the two assailants it is clear that there was a definite motive for this attack. Not only was the satirical comic of Islamic prophet Muhammad controversial, it may have been the trigger for the attack. However, in 2013 an English magazine published by al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula had within it a hit list of those who’ve committed crimes against Islam, with Stéphane Charbonnie being one of many named on said…

When talking about or referring to Muslims, weather its in the newspaper, through common conversations, or news broadcast, the words following are usually associated with violence, terrorism or being vigorous people. The question has been asked by American Muslims, why should fanatical groups whose terrorist behavior disobey the structural principles of Islam, determine the universal image of the entire Muslim community? American Muslims, who are protected under our constitution, experience the effects of the stereotypes they are given in countless ways. Some experience discrimination in the work force, when looking for a home, or even being harassed on the street when minding their own business. The extremes have gone as far as public transportation in New York sponsoring advertisements that say “It’s not Islamophobia, it’s…
