On 05/12/17 at 6:48pm, I Deputy Warden N. Christian was dispatched to the area of W 5th Ave and Highland St on a dog at large, patrol only. I arrived in the area and saw a unknown male and female playing with a white medium mix dog and a boxer in a field. I stopped and exited my vehicle and approached the individuals. They indicated that they are the ones that called about the boxer running loose. I returned to my vehicle and retrieved my snare pole and doggie treats.…
At one point in most everyone's life they dream of making a difference in their community. They want to make it a better place. This is one of many dreams that I wish to accomplish. My plan is to use this scholarship to help set a better example for the younger generation in my tribal community. My hope is that by attending college and bettering myself, then the youth within the tribe will follow my lead and decide to do the same; whether it be going to college one day or to just be a better person in general.…
I never thought that I would ever end up being a Warrior Wrestler at Henry Sibley High School. It all started with one of my brothers wrestling for the High School. His head coach was close with my brother so he also knew me. He was and still is an social studies teacher at Heritage Middle school which is connected in the School district of 197. Every morning at Heritage he would see me and always call me by my brothers name and always bug me about wrestling and trying out for it.…
I started sailing at the age of six or seven at an all girls summer camp in northern Minnesota. Camp Lake Hubert is an award based, there is a series of awards in several areas. From the beginning, I excelled in sailing, winning races to truly understanding the complex sport. There were times when I struggled, but I always persevered and kept going. There are five awards in the sailing program, crewman, seaman, seaman 1st, mate, skipper; skipper being the highest.…
I am greatly honored to be a recipient of the 2016, 2017 Witham Trustee Scholarship. Thank you very much for the kind generosity of this gift. Your support will greatly help my family through the struggle of paying for college. Just earlier this year, a brother of mine has graduated from this University and wishes to move on to medical school, which leaves quite the financial burden on them. The scholarship you have given me helps offset that burden just that little bit that greatly helps my family.…
I feel that getting Black Belt is a huge accomplishment in my life. I feel really powerful and i learned so much respect throughout my journey of being in Taekwondo. I got inspired by watching the karate kid because I've always wanted to to be a Black belt in my life so me and my brother decided to join Taekwondo and go through all the belts and learn the moves and forms. I am so happy about the day finally coming for me getting my black belt. Now i never will have to worry about getting any bad people fighting because the number one thing i have learned to do in Taekwondo is walk away from the guy and do not say anything.…
Quitting the sport I loved had made me realize that I need to start setting more goals for myself. Before my injury, my goals were mostly just about gymnastics. Now I have to set different goals in real life, which is for the better since I cannot do gymnastics forever. Before my injury gymnastics was all I thought about and I also did much better in school, but I was also more stressed. Gymnastics has taught me so much, especially patience which is why I did so well in school.…
Receiving this scholarship would help me in more ways than one. This scholarship would help my family and I pay for the expenses of my books and my tuition, this way I would not be stressed during my studies of how I will be able to pay for all of my schooling. Any form of money that I can receive will be significantly beneficial. Being a recipient I would use this money to put towards my degree in Occupational Therapy, where I will be helping kids with disabilities learn the basic day to day living skills. After graduation, I will be attending East Central College to get my general courses out of the way, while taking classes that will help me in my future career.…
Black Belt Issues Imagine a scenario where someone has been working hard to achieve something that they’ve been dying to have for four years, and then suddenly right as the time came to finally receive it something happens and now there seems to be no way to get it at all. Think of how they’d react, and more importantly, how they’d feel. That feeling is what I went through when I first moved to Webb City.…
I want to get my black belt because I don’t ever want to end my Tae Kwon-Do journey. Tae Kwon-Do has played a massive part in my life over the last four years and has helped me achieve things I would never dream of being able to do, for example it has helped improve my confidence greatly. I used to feel sick to the stomach at the thought of having to do anything while people were watching me however with my belt round my waist I feel powerful and that I can do anything as long as I try and don’t give up. I want to be able to help lower grades discover a side of them they didn’t think they had just as my instructors did with me.…
During this time, I became involved with karate which gave me self-confidence, built my mental and physical strength, and…
Throughout the coarse of my life, I have been searching for a challenge. I wanted to know who I was, and what I was really made of. It didn't matter to me whether this challenge came mentally of physically. About 6 years ago I found what I was looking for.…
I have been practicing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for over two and a half years now! Personally I think martial arts can help many people feel stronger, healthier, and more confident. My parents made me start martial arts, and at first I didn't like it! The environment and uniform felt alien to me. But after a few classes, I began to enjoy myself and feel more comfortable.…
I absolutely love the sport of Mixed Martial Arts. It’s a great way to get into shape and cleanse your body of bad foods that you may have eaten over the years. I feel the sport is a good way to know how to defend yourself; when the time may come. Last, I think it’s exciting and a great adrenaline rush when you get a chance to compete in the sport.…
“Blood, sweat, and chalk; never tears.” These words have guided my gymnastics career throughout high school. Pretty much starting from the beginning, I had to re-learn many skills and tricks that I had lost after quitting gymnastics for dance lessons in fifth grade instead of joining the competitive team. I lived for gymnastics and I still do. Walking into the gym always boosts my mood and gives me a rush of determination.…
