Personal Narrative-Avatar The Last Airbender

Improved Essays
Martial arts have always had a positive impression on me. I remember when I was five years old, I would watch “Avatar the last Airbender.” I was so inspired by watching this show, just watching the characters doing crazy flips in the air ; it was an extravagant sight. My parents who would see me trying to perform such flips and karate techniques, decided it would be right for me to start taking karate classes. One day after school I was taken to a dojo about ten minutes away from my house, that’s where I met Sensei Bryan. Sensei Bryan was awesome. The first impression I have of him, is him and Sensei Angelo sparring on the matts. It was like I was watching Avatar in real life. I automatically wanted to join and start my training. Three years …show more content…
Then with a bang someone gets hit, they were laughing. ¨Whats funny¨ sensei Matt said. The kid just left, I don't know if he was embarrassed but I knew one thing, I passed the first test. We went on to basics then, which went pretty smoothly. I managed not to mess up any techniques, which automatically put me on a good side of the senseis. Unfortunately that all changed when they all made us get our self defense pads. This was it for me, I knew the only thing I could do is fast enough to block a punch, but not two.. It started off with one line against me, its called single man self defense. I blocked student by student, leaving them on the ground for them to get up, until the monsters popped into the line. The first monster sent me flying three feet back, leaving me on the floor, out of breath, trying to figure out how to survive the next 4 people. I got up and just jumped and kicked mid air, launching the giant a foot back. Enzo the giant slayer! I thought to myself at this moment, ¨If this works on one, shouldn't it work on the others?¨ So that's what I did, I kicked myself till I got to sensei Niko. I knew I wouldn't kick him, because he´s a sensei, and two, he's short. I waited for him to punch me, but he didn't move. Remember how I said senseis are bloodthirsty beasts that wait for you to put your guard down? Well that's what I did, and the very same second I regretted it. Sensei Niko, launched me past the matts, onto the cold, splintering hardwood floor. But this time, I couldn't get up, neither could I breath. I was having an asthma attack.I didn't know at the moment, because well I never had an asthma attack. Sensei Bryan soon had my propped up on the wall and handing me an asthma inhaler. It was like I was burning in hell and an angel came down and brought me back up, it was the most relieving experience. Well of course it didn't

Over the years and years spent on studying mythology, Joseph Campbell came up with the concept of The Hero’s Journey. The Hero’s Journey states that all hero’s travel in a similar path and go through many similar stages that’ll lead them to their reward. However, not every hero’s journey has to involve obstacles as in slaying a dragon or trying to save the world. In my case, I had to do nothing but trying to make it through sixth grade year. Sadly, sixth grade was the year that I faced the most challenges, real world challenges at least.…

The first day I came in I looked around the room and tried to spot the more experienced wrestlers, from the beginner wrestlers. Once I noticed who needed a specific one on one partner or was not quite understanding a move, I would go wrestle with them and teach them slowly until they understood the movement. Only after a couple try's would the kids learn the move. I believe wrestling sometimes needs to be taught one on one because not everyone can jump right into the movement, yet they have to walk threw it slowly until they fully understand what to do and feel the muscle connection of the movement. For example the first week of practice I was teaching Robbie how to do a switch from bottom position, when while he was doing the sit out just fine, he wasn't putting his hand in the right place when he would hit the switch (which would be in between my legs) rather he would put his hand to the outside of my leg and wasn't hitting the switch properly.…

I was 10 years old. I looked from the edge of the mat, unaware about the endeavor I was about to take the moment my foot touched that mat. I finally decided to walk on, like they had taught me by bowing, it was the first of a near million times I was going to do this. I was a white belt, at the best taekwondo centers in the area. All the kids, stood to the side eerily silent, waiting for instructions.…

Memoir I am not a bad kid but in the past I have done some questionable things such as things that followed the guidelines of fists and bruises but I am going to tell you the story of when I got into my first fight. This story is kicked off by saying it was my first day of middle school in gym class when I decided try to smart mouth off to one of the new kids I was paired up with which probably was my first mistake, Never smart mouth off to a eighth grader that is heavier than you. To protect the antagonist’s identity I will call him fart knocker; I was sitting in the locker room changing out of my P.E. clothes when fartknocker thought it would be funny to take his axe deodorant and spray all over my clothing.…

“Shes coming back right?” a baffled 7 year old asks in response to the appalling news of her mother’s death. A vibrant imagination is accompanied by a crushing pain of reality that trails behind it ; I discovered this when I heard the words “no” . 10 years later, that conversation lingers in my head and holds not a cacophonous nor euphonious sound, but instead holds the neutral tone of reality, an alarm . As routine , at 6a.m., I hear a melodious alarm followed by the pitter-patter of my aunt who is getting ready for work.…
