Technology Changing Our Culture

While technology has its ups and downs, it is a gateway to the future and is continually changing our culture. In Kara Alalmo’s article “7 Ways the iPhone has made life worse” she states that “While we're busy on our phones, we're ignoring the world around us” (Alalmo). This is very far from true. Since we all have our heads buried on our phones these days, we have instant access to what’s happening around the world. On Twitter, you can find a “Moments” page, where world news updates have the ability to be uploaded instantly, and trending hashtags are featured. One can argue that something being fast-paced and something being stressful are two different things. Algebra homework can be very stressful, but it can also take two hours to get completed, which is not fast-paced. A doctor’s job can be very stressful because he or she must work very precisely at a fast pace for long periods of time. Both of these tasks require some thought, but they are not the same in their stressful-ness. Doing things faced paced can help build up those cognitive muscles and help with memory retention and prevent dementia. Our phones help us keep up with this fast lifestyle because we can communicate with others at lightning fast speeds. Even though there are negative effects with having a stressful life, having a face-paced one can be good for the brain in the long

Recruiting, hiring, and retaining talented employees are imperative to an organizations success. Organizations want to be able to train their employees on not only their job specific task, but also the goals and culture of the organization they are joining, this process is called onboarding. This term is defined in an online article titled, “Starting Them Off On the Right Foot: Why Onboarding is Important” as, “A more comprehensive process by why new employees are socialized into a company’s culture, in addition to being oriented to their specific job tasks and associated work expectations.” (Krauss, 2010). Personally, I have not had the opportunity of experiencing onboarding, so I took this opportunity to research different pieces of literature that offered some valuable insight on this topic.…

Technology is all around us, I’ve learned from an old class I took that technology is even that of a pencil but here, we will be talking about technology like everyone thinks of technology, the phones, computers, and tablets. Technology has advanced and changed for the better (as most would say) every day since human civilization but in the past 30 years or so technology has taken a big turn into our society and has changed our social norms and everyday way of life. Technology has also changed our education field, some would say for the better and others might think of it for the worst. Technology has changed so much in the last decade. So much that most of our elders can’t keep up with the changes.…

In the 21st century many may agree that the nation has become a technology based society. As technology has advanced society has progressed with it, although the new equipment has come in handy the evolvement has corrupted the minds of society. Some would agree that the biggest impact would be of the minds of the younger generations. Although many have benefited from technology, the question that comes up is; has the presentation of technological advancements changed the mindset in current day society? The growth of technology has negatively influenced the minds of present day society because it is seen as something individuals need, it isolates people from reality, and barricades their communication.…

Byron Whitlow Paper 1 Impact of Information Technology on Culture HUMN 344 Professor Bingley During a trip to Florida last December, I wasn 't surprised to notice that the instant it landed at the airport, the first thing everyone did was to switch on their cells and tablets. Like back in the day, folks didn 't jump immediately to switch on a flip phone. Nor did they zip to the nearest payphone, throw in a quarter to make a call. Information technology is so readily integrated in all of our lives that its now habit and part of the norm for our society to access technology at an instant. Information needed is accessible online just a press of a key away.…

Discussion Post #3 Technology has clearly changed society’s structure and culture; whereas people once stood in the grocery line reading the magazines, now they check their Facebook status. Whereas kids once fought in the mini-van during the family trip to Florida, kids now play games on their personal devices. Whereas parents once gave their children their undivided attention, their attention is now divided between their kids and their phones. Because technology has become so pervasive in the lives of just about everybody (See Table 1), our world today is different than it was when most adults were in school.…
