Hip hop artist Kanye West has come to be well-known not only for his music, but also for his outspoken nature. Throughout his rap career, Kanye has made headlines for saying and doing outrageous things that caused a lot of people to give him a profane, but celebrated nickname. In fact, in 2010, Kanye West wrote the song “Runaway,” in honor of his “asshole” title. But even though he has grown to embrace the name, he always finds creative ways to defend his actions. Here are Kanye West’s top five worse excuses for his outrageous behavior.

Number Five: “I had a little sippy sippy.” Using baby talk would be a fail-proof way of excusing your actions if he were between the ages of 1 and 5. But Kanye West was 29 years old in 2006 when he took the stage of the MTV Europe Music Awards and blurted out one of his famous rants. He told the audience that if he didn’t win, “the award show loses credibility.” After the show, when asked to explain his actions, West admitted to being drunk and planning to have “a little more sippy sippy.” Priceless.

This would not make the top of any “Top Scandals” list, but I happened to see this show and I can still remember how sad I felt for Taylor Swift. President Obama was heard calling West a “jackass” (Time Magazine 2015). On September 13, 2009, during the 2009 MVT Video Music Awards, Kanye West jumped on stage and interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech for her win for Best Female Video. West felt that Beyoncé should have won for “Single Ladies”. It is such a shame that a young woman, still a teenager, had her first major award like this ruined.…

Repetition is used throughout the song to emphasize on their uniqueness. As mentioned before, most of De La Soul’s songs dealt with humor and social commentary. As a result, their public image was taken as hippie style. In order to change this stereotype, De La Soul expresses through “Me, Myself and I” that they are De La Soul, a hip-hop trio, not hippies. They want to tell their audience that they are who they are; their styles might appear similar as hippie style, but similarity does not tie with same.…

The article “Daughters of the Blues: Women, Race, and Class Representation in Rap Music Performance,” sheds light on how women in rap have been disproportionately represented. Dating back to the 1920s, black women have successfully been “contest[ing], protest[ing], and affirm[ing] working-class ideologies of black womanhood (187)” through the blues. Notable blues singers, such as Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, and Ida Cox, paved the way for women MCs today to speak out about their experiences of being a black working-class woman. The four categories of women rappers that have emerged are: “Queen Mother,” “Fly Girl,” “Sista with Attitude,” and “The Lesbian.”…
