Kanye West Influences

Kanye West came from humble beginnings, born in Atlanta Georgia but later moved to Chicago where his music career would begin. Ever since he was a young boy Kanye showed an interest in the performing arts. When he was thirteen he would convince his moms to pay for 25 dollars an hour studio time, even though she wasn't empty on board with what he was doing neither the less she supported him. She would later be even more disappointed when he choose to drop out of college to pursue a music career, from there he would go on to become a multi-grammy winning artist. Then further go on to leave an incredible impact on hip hop. Kanye West's creative approach to hip hop gave birth to a different genre of hip-hop that facilitated the development of many other subgenres. Hip hop is a genre of music that has been around for a considerable amount of time, and during that time it has changed dramatically. For instance the use of samples earlier on was slightly different but mostly similar they chose to emphasise on the equipment the use in developing samples “ everything from what type of turntable, drum machine, or sampler is used, to the type of sounds that are chosen for sampling and the general effect or “feel” of the beat serve to mark one’s style as unique”(D'Errico 13). Samples in the early stage of hip -hop were heavily reliant on the equipment used but it still focused on how the use of samples and what it adds to the song. “By re-using anthems, numerous hip-hop artists hope to capture some of the film's glamor and transfer it to their own artist-persona.” (Demers 49-50) Kanye capitalized on the effects of samples especially in his own genre of music hip
