Kanye West is an artist whose works can never be replicated. If you start with his first studio album, The College Dropout, West brings an entire new style of rap to the genre of hip hop. This album focused on topics such as consumerism, religion, and family instead of ordinary rap subjects like drugs or crimes. In his song “All Falls Down,” West scrutinizes the problems with college using lyrics like this: “She has no idea what she doin' in college/That major that she majored in don't make no money/ But she won't drop out, her parents'll look at her funny” (“All Falls Down”). The interesting aspect of The Life of Pablo is that the album didn’t really develop a new sound like past Kanye albums, but it still brought a compelling twist to West’s discography. Although he samples more gospel music in songs like “Ultralight Beam,” West utilizes an array of styles from his past albums all compiled in this album. These styles include his soul samples from The College Dropout and hip hop anthems from Graduation; it’s like a beautiful concoction of everything Kanye made by Kanye. However, the diversity of styles and themes throughout The Life of Pablo created a messier composition than other Kanye albums, leaving many individuals polarized on their opinion of the album. In terms of publicity, West had a very up and down personal life years leading up to the release of The Life of Pablo. On one hand, West had finally settled down with a wife and had a child, while on the other hand, he has many small outbursts (mostly on twitter) dealing with the innocence of Bill Cosby and support of Donald Trump. The public saw West as an unstable, erratic figure who could not find balance in his life. This image definitely affect the music of The Life of Pablo as the meaning of album is the West trying to balance his fame and family
