Lying Essay
Have you ever lied and get really stressed while you have the lie in you? The lie creates more and more stress in you and it never lets you think straight. Lying is sometimes acceptable. You're never supposed to lie ever even though it's hard to face the truth. Some evidence I have is “It harms the liar himself, by destroying his human dignity and making him more worthless even than a small thing.” This helps support my point because some people just lie so they won't face the huge situation. According to Kant others may argue about when to lie, but he makes clean sweep. It helps my thinking of lying because people argue about when to lie instead of just saying the truth. According to Kant, he says “This is an absolutist position,

It is a way of escaping the reality of a problem or it is a last resort because you do not want to embarrass yourself by being honest. Moreover, the adage “honesty is the best policy” does not always ring true for many. Sometimes we have to lie in order to get to the truth. In Stephanie Ericsson’s “The Ways We Lie,” we find that lying is a natural and unavoidable act.…

Is it ok to lie in any situation, or is it just wrong to lie at all ? In four articles that I read, it states a couple of things, for example, they talk about lying and if it's bad, is lying sometimes good, and is lying good. I believe lying is only good sometimes and it should only be used in white lies. I think a good time to lie is when you protect someone. One scenario of this is the story of Ann Frank.this is a good example because they were protecting Ann and her family by saying that there was nothing upstairs.…

Most people will say that lying is never the answer, but they don’t always tell why. Lying often ends unethically, not only the can the lier be punished or feel guilty in the process, but it often goes further than anticipated. When looking back there seems to be more consequences on the result of the pretense than what the reward would have been if everything worked out and there was no lying. The Salem Witch Trials, the McCarthy Trials, and the McMartin Trials all proved that it is important to always be honest, regardless of the sacrifice.…

People lie frequently, hence why it is such a moral dilemma. If people were able to identify more hidden agendas and different types of white lies, it would be less of a conundrum. Many people are unaware that we as people make mistakes on a daily basis. Many individuals choose to see the good, whereas some would like to exploit the good in people and use that to their own advantage.…

In “The Ways We Lie” by Stephanie Ericsson she discusses and breaks down the activity of lying into different kinds of lies. Ericsson goes into great detail of about 10 of them, but there are many more. Some lies are for your peace of mind and maybe still bad for both parties, and some are for the better of someone else’s feelings. Ericsson believes that even if you feel you are perfect, nobody is and still tell lies no matter big or small, we do it and at times are unaware that it is considered a lie. Individuals nowadays get to a point where they are lying and don’t know whether to believe themselves or others.…

Should we lie because most Americans think it's always okay to lie all the time others think it's never okay to lie. Americans are very conflicted on whether we should or shouldn’t lie. I my opinion lying is only acceptable under certain circumstances, such as sparing others feelings. Some may feel that lying is never acceptable because it is morally wrong, however, I believe lying is acceptable when it can be used to protect and care for others. Randy cohen gave an example when he said “ if your wife is going out and she asks if she looks bad you say no it would be rude not to, because if you are already out of the house she will feel self conscious.…

Most lies told are for the purpose of protecting one’s reputation. As seen in The Crucible, many main characters lie in order to protect their reputation. According to David J. Ley, Ph.D., most people who constantly tell lies “are often worried about losing the respect of those around them. They want you to like them, be impressed, and value them. And they’re worried that the truth might lead you to reject or shame them”…

Honesty is the avoidance of knowingly deceiving yourself or others. Honesty means not lying, cheating, or stealing, whether it is done with malicious intent or not. This holds true even in situations where dishonesty seems like the easy way out. Perhaps one of the least considered, and possibly most difficult, aspects of honesty is being honest with oneself. Everyone has moments where lying may seem like the easy way out.…
