Kant 104 Week 1 Reflection

1. What is the most significant thing I learned this week? In the reading of Contemplative Vision Chapter 2, the discussion of retreats truly helped open my eyes in the impact that spiritual retreats can have on our journey with God. Prior to reading this chapter I had the wrong idea of what a spiritual retreat was. Yes, I did think it was time alone with God but I don’t think I truly understood that the solitude that we need during spiritual retreats needs to be without any interruption if possible. Also, I had not thought of spiritual retreats as something that God instructs us to go on. I simply thought we realize that we are lacking in our relationship with God and we take time out for him, but a spiritual retreat is far greater than I previously understood. I look forward to being called by God and remove all distractions and journey on a retreat with Him soon.

How did what I learned change my thinking about this week's topic? In the task 5.1 contemplation I was able to change my perspective on contemplation. Before this class I had always thought of contemplation to mean lack of faith. I thought that this was a struggling area for me because I would contemplate things regarding the progress of my spiritual growth repeatedly. Also, I think that now I understand that even with time restraints that contemplation can be beneficial whether it is for a short amount of time or for long periods of time. God can still use my contemplation regardless of its length. I also learned to make an intentional effort to contemplate as much as I can because God will bless that time with

Philosophy is a discipline that studies how one ought to live, as well as study reality, nature, existence, etc. However, there are a number of philosophers who propose differing sets of morals and have different ideas of living life to its fullest (Singer v. Mill). Kant proposes that moral actions are defined by the motivation of an action, and later on explains that moral actions are duties through reason, rather than inclination. This essay will explain the validity of Kant’s argument by first explaining Kant’s view on duty, then analyse his view of duty as an object of good will, which pertains to motivations without the slightest selfishness, then argue for moral duties motivated by duty instead of inclination based on reason. It is difficult…

Kant effectively quantifies freedom via his argument for his idea of enlightenment, public/private divide, trade off between rational and physical productivity and finally international governance. He runs into problems however in that he fails to effectively quantify the means of acquiring his aspirational goals of perfect moral constitution, universal enlightenment as well as global cosmopolitan governance. The following section will outline first the public private divide followed by means not considered (harm principle) and the second section will outline the means towards global cosmopolitanism as well as the limitations considered. The attainment of enlightenment is one of the highest level of understanding for Kant and correlates…

As far as time I concerned I have decided to get rid of my Netflix account so that my time wouldn’t be wasted, but rather will be used for something godly. As I do my best to save money for a new car, I am reminded that it is important for me to give a tithe back to God. If I need a new car bad enough, God will provide a way. The study of stewardship is also a great reminder to hold onto things loosely. If someone needs to borrow your car, let them borrow it.…

Great Intentions + Action = Miracles “It's exhausting, tiptoeing around someone who barges into your life with good intentions.”
~ Gretta Mulrooney, The Lady Vanished One of the tragedies of life is people with magnificent intentions, which simply meddles in their mind as a puff of a dream but nothing more because there is no action to express and create their intentions. Most people want to grow, learn and go beyond where find themselves. But most people are not growing, learning and expanding, because there is no action behind their intentions. Intentions without action is exactly why they are struggling in their faith, relationships, business and personal life!…

As stated beforehand, the District Court of Howard County, Maryland relied upon the requirement surrounding intent as the means to convict Sam Kant of Shoplifting. However, the Court made a serious error in judgment in terms of accepting the State 's version of Kant 's actions. Of course, the State focused upon Kant 's lack of patience when he left the customer service line and refusal to return the unpurchased Handell 's beans back to its shelf. However, in Kant 's mind which is directly related to intent, he believed that placing his purchased Hoover beans in a cart which happened to hold canned donations served as a proper exchange of merchandise. This action which Kant would admit was a mistake in judgment, but a mistake does not amount…

What have you come to think about differently over the course of these few weeks? I am a Studio Art Major and throughout the semester I’ve learned many things. There are different ideas that people think “art” is and sometimes this can relate to a person’s background or their beliefs. My view in art has changed somewhat to a degree with learning about the different types of films that there are. I never thought movies could be a form of art.…

Mission's Trip The third week of June, 2015, marks the week my perspective on life changed. This trip contributed to the obliteration of my egotistical state of mind. I went on a prayer tour, spent time at an elderly apartment complex, helped at a community outreach, served at a food bank, and visited a children's learning center. Each of these experiences affected me differently, but were similar in that they all changed my outlook on life.…

The following paper argues in favor of Aristotle’s virtue ethics over Kantian deontology. In Kantian deontology, to be ethical is to follow one’s duty by acting on only the rules which one can at the same time rationally will that those actions become universal laws, while in Aristotelian virtue ethics, to be ethical is to develop and internalize virtuous habits until one fully becomes virtuous themselves. In turn, the ethical question of ‘What should I do?’ that deontology asks becomes ‘What should I be?’ with virtue ethics, placing emphasis on internal motivations rather than external actions.…

The first concept that I learned in this book called “creation health discovery” written by Des Cummings JR. is that you must relax before bedtime. At first, this didn’t make any sense to me because most of the time when I am about to sleep, I get stressed on what might happen the next day. Even though this happens, I am still able to get 7- 8 hours, but I would still question myself on why am I stil sleepy in some of my classes. What I realized was, if you do a daily devotional or read a book two hours before you sleep, then you will sleep even more efficiently than you would if you were doing school work or watching t.v.. The second concept that I learned in this book was to invest in friendships.…

Kant would resolve the conflict seen in Law and Order by adhering to the duty principle by testing a maxim of the conflict against his three formulations. These formulations are used to see if a rule is a categorical imperative – that is, a rule that is in tune with the moral law and is acted out of a pure will. Basically, these categorical imperatives are rules that are absolutely universal and unconditional. On the other hand, the impure will comes out of a hypothetical imperative. This is a rule that is conditional and mixes reason with desires and feelings and is concerned with the goods and ends of a decision.…

    Kant's Moral Theory Essay

Kant’s moral theory is based on the fact that one’s action should be governed by a maxim that follows the purity of the will; the idea that one’s actions should be based on a will that aligns with duty and not on the consequences of one’s actions. In the contrary, rule utilitarianism is based on the consequences of one’s actions and how it impacts the overall happiness of the individuals involved. The following paper focuses on the ideas of duty ethics and utilitarian ethics; and how these ideas can be implemented in the case of James Liang. Kant believes that an act is morally acceptable when such an act perfectly aligns with one’s duty. Furthermore, he believed that all rational beings are obligated by the demands of duty.…
