The officers thought it would be okay to steal these items because the criminals didn’t deserve them. I think that the system did not take enough time to teach proper ethics and did not enforce an ethical policy that shows how these types of behaviors would be dealt with. I think that the agency should have taken a more active approach with their officers in ensuring that they were properly trained in ethical and moral behavior. I think that this could not have been the first time that these officers were involved in unethical practices, and if that is the case, they should have had stronger consequences handed down to them to deter this kind of behavior in the …show more content…
Proper ethical conduct can improve community interactions and can help to promote a shared responsibility to addressing crime. The significance of ethics in the public’s perception of the criminal justice system is so important because if the citizens don’t trust that those who are to protect them are conducting themselves in an ethical manner then they will have no faith that the system will do its job correctly. Members of the criminal justice profession must continually show that they are going to follow the ethical and moral standards they took to an oat too when entering this profession. They have to continue to show the community they are to be trusted and that they are dedicated to continually improving the system. I think that Grant (2012) said it best “law enforcement officials must continue to emphasize the importance of ethical standards. Only through sound hiring practices, proper training, ethical leadership, and a written code of ethics will the U.S. criminal justice system
