Kane's Creation Myths

Kane is the highest of the four major Hawaiian gods and is the god of procreation, water, wild plants or forest, wild food, sea animals, man and the sun, but out of these all water is the most important, because of Kane's association with water, and sun, he is also associated with storms, thunder, lightning, and rainbows. It is belived that Kane along with Kanaloa traveled around the Hawaiian islands together and as they did so they noticed there was no fresh water to drink or make there awa from so they would open up the ground and fresh spring water would come out, and that this is where all fresh drinking water comes from to this day. Kane has two brothers Lono and Ku and is the father of Pele. It is also thought he had a seashell that, when placed on the ocean, would turn into a boat. All the user of the boat had to do was state his destination and the boat took him there.

Kane is called on when fishing, for garding, for protection and in times when water or food is needed. The 27th lunar moon marks the moon of Kane. This time of the moon was strictly enforced and most of this two day period was devoted to prayer to the Gods. While I can not find any information on holidays that ciclbrate Kane, I think he would have been apart of Makahiki the new year as his brother and sister are.
