William Kamkwamba, is a young boy who was born in Malawi, in South-eastern Africa, loved to learn. William has had a hard life, he lives in a small African village with about ten houses, all made of mud bricks and long grasses and painted the same color: white. The village had some power but it turned off at 7pm. William lived with his mother, father, and six sisters. The Kamkwamba family didn’t have much money, their income was based on their farm and what they could sell after feeding their own family. Williams family was so poor that they couldn’t afford to send William to school to finish his education, even though they all new it was an important aspect in his life. William had two friends, one could afford schooling and the other had a job, leaving William a lot of free time. In his free time William loved to take apart radios and try to make new thing out of them, or even just understand how they worked. Two traits that describe William are committed and talented.

In his free time William went down to his local library to check out book, some that interested him and others that he would have used at school. Along with studying his schooling William began reading a book on windmills and how energy worked. Connecting the dots, William began to experiment with energy and how it worked at home. William had the idea to make his own windmill to power his family's house, and so he did. I don’t know about you but without an education I wouldn’t know the first thing about energy, let alone try and build a windmill. Even though William struggled with reading he used his talent to connect the dots, William started small to make sure his invention worked, when it did he went bigger.
